other issues, including the opportunities and challenges of the workers of the world working with Pope Francis, who many days says and does wonderful things, but on one day that now seems like so far away embraced a fundamentalist homophobic bigot, one who, not unlike the fundamentalist homophobic bigot who did so much to coopt “Christianity” during the Reagan era, views herself as threatened by the liberation of the oppressed. Now, with the Paris attacks and the bigotry being openly expressed in the U.S. against helpless Syrian refugees, I am even more convinced than ever that when we leave out LGBTs or “illegal aliens” or any other oppressed group from solidarity we are empowering totalitarians “at home and abroad.”
